The First Email and The New Challenge

Everybody received the following email (including me):

Thank you for participating in "The Da Vinci Code" Quest on Google. This email is to confirm that you have completed all 24 puzzles within the quest and successfully registered for a chance to participate in the final challenge. Well done!We will be contacting the 10,000 finalists on Monday 5/15 via email regarding their cryptex shipment. Within that email the 10,000 finalists will also receive instructions on how to participate in the final challenge. All remaining players who finished the quest will also receive a surprise message via email.Thank you all for participating in "The Da Vinci Code" Quest on Google and making it such a success. We hope you enjoyed playing. The Da Vinci Code In Theaters 5/19
------------------------------------------------------------
You are receiving this email as part of your participation in THE DA VINCI CODE QUEST ON GOOGLE.

So we are all finalists’ right? Afraid not. You won't know if you’re a finalist until 5/15 as stated in the original rules and this new email.

If your in my dingy, you'll be receiving the oh so special "surprise message". Alternatively, if you’re on the other ship you'll be receiving instructions for phase 2. I am personally looking forward to my surprise message which will probably say something like "Great job, now visit this link from Sony's website" which will then redirect you to a page that says "go pay $9.00 to see the Da Vinci code".

In the mean time I am thinking we get started on the eurostar quest (thanks for the link arttxgirl). I am going to find out more details about the quest and fill ya'll in on it shortly. I am thinking that I will need to create a quest oriented blog for this rather than using this googlefact blog. I do also happen to have this davinci quest blog which I could use, but I was also thinking about using a different service as opposed to using blogger.

Also, I am going to be moving this weekend. If everything goes well I will only be out of Internet service for 1 day. But if for some reason you don't hear from me, you'll know what happened. So I need to know:

1. How many people want to do the eurostar quest together? (Respond Yes, No, Maybe)

2. If you respond yes, should I create a new blog (if so should I use blogger?) or should I use the other blog I have? If your response is no, what do you suggest we do instead?

Finally, keep submitting links to blogs or websites that you want to promote, but please also do me the following good turn. If the link you are promoting has any form of the word porn in it (ie pr0n p0rn porn pizzorn nrop) or any other form of the word you can fabricate, don't bother posting it. I don't want to have to waste my time deleting the comment. No offense to your good intentions, but the internet has enough junk on it without my blog adding to the chaos. Thanks!!

One last note: It might not be a bad idea to visit google analytics and sign up for an invitation. It will only take you a moment (since you have a Google Account now) and if you happen to get one fairly soon they are selling for $100+ on ebay. And the interesting part is that until Google opens up the tool to the general public, $100 is a small price to pay considering the tool's value to a webmaster.

I've already done stage 1 of the eurostar quest and am on stage 2. It's a bit harder than google's quest. That would be cool if we could do the quest together but I'm not sure if all of our challenges are the same or not. And it would probably be better to make a different blog for the eurostar quest...

I'm already through both open stages of the Eurostar Quest and am waiting for phase 3 to start (May 19th). I'm in and willing to help (but I blew through phase 1 before seeing this blog, so don't remember too much from that phase.)

I've just started yesterday's afternoon and i'm on phase 2. It's getting kinda hard....I'd like some help sometimes. I'm confused on some of the instructions and actually applying them on the puzzle myself. :-[

At 5/12/2006 12:39 AM, Blogger MeOfCourse77 said...

I went through the first and 2 parts of the second. Quit because it is late. I solved the end of phase one in 4 trys and 2 min 46.48 seconds. Is that fast?

Anyway, I found a great site for research:
http://www.sparknotes.com/

This site has a lot of info on characters, ect.

Maybe we can set up a chat room in Paltalk, or something like that.

Just a thought.

I'm with Melissa - please post a link from this blog, if you decide to post at an other site.

I started the Eurostar Quest too - got to stage 2 & I am absolutely stuck with the old man windowshopping puzzle. Any suggestions?

meofcourse77: I solved the cryptex puzzle just a bit under 2 minutes, but in 7 tries. After reading your post, I guess we both did pretty good.

Weird, I never received an email or anything at all on completing the final quest, just a single screen to enter some personal details like my home address, no second screen. All it says on my Google homepage is "Thank you for participating in The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google. We hope you had fun.", and I've had no new quests to do since I finished #24.

Is it different depending on whether you're in USA, UK or Oz? A friend was doing the quest as well and he didn't get an email either, and we're both in the UK.

I'm done with stages 1 & 2 of the eurostar quest, and I have a few screenshots for help but I'm not at that computer right now...

Hi Googlefact..
done stage 1 on euroquest.

So.. I think Yes it would be great if we can all do it together like the Davinci code.. and I think it would be nice if we can move this quest to a seperate blog (for quests) as this blog is for "google facts".

I have often visited ur blog even before the quest started to read abt all the new things going on in google. So i wish u would keep it that way. Great blog for google fans.

So thats my two cents.
Thanks for the awesome blog

Let's do the eurostar quest on a new blog! I'm also stuck on the sliding tile puzzle. I tried for about 25 minutes and gave up. I feel like something is wrong with me or something, don't they usually make these puzzles for kids? At any rate, I am stuck.

Could everyone post the approximate time that they completed the final quest and submitted the form? I did it as fast as I could and had my form submitted at 1:03 EST, just 3 minutes after the last puzzle went live. Is this good, or did others do it faster?

Hi guys,

The picture ones where you look for the letters should spell out: T-E-A-B-I-N-G

The "A" was in the picture where the shoppers were all looking for books. The tables that have the books on them, one of the table legs is in the perfect shape of an "A". There was an "I" in the clock. An "N" on the side of one of the buildings. A "G" in the tree. I can't remember where the "T" was. Or the "B" for that matter. Sorry.

At 5/12/2006 6:19 PM, Blogger Missy said...

The "E" I think, was in a railing.

Hope this helps.

The toughest one for me was the blueprint rearrangement. Until I had an idea. You need to see my blog to understand what I mean. The sliding puzzle was nasty too, always hated those.

YADVCP to complete on the 19th (I hope)

BTW: The templates mostly come for free on BlogSpot

After your help on the DaVinci quest i will definately be trying the eurostar one! My one complaint is that the prize the davinci quets promises arent available here in the uk - why is it america gets all the cool stuff? So unfair... *sniffles*..

At 5/14/2006 6:25 AM, Blogger Artemiy said...

USA always gets many free stuff. Well, you don't get it here in Russia either. I try to get all that stuff from America... Well, on very very rare occasions, I almost succeed - though the prizes were from Norway after all(SonyEricsson accesories - bluetooth car and bluetooth T310 adapter...)

Yeaaaaaaa that bluprint puzzle was a squinting nightmare. I went to the original site of the actual built building and finally I was able to decipher the true patterns. This coming from one who's strongest puzzle cracking talent is recognising variations in visual patterns in any space in front of me, it's the artist in me I suppose. I felt so much satisfaction when I finished that one.
