Thanks for Everything

The Da Vinci Code Quest is over for some of us (that blasted flash loading page is going to haunt me for weeks), and almost over for the rest of ya's, but it has been a fun ride for all. I am flattered by the dozens of emails and comments that you have sent and posted telling me how much you appreciate this blog.

This post is to thank everyone who participated in this blog over the past 24 days. This blog wouldn't have been much without your comments and thoughts along the way. This quest has brought together an extraordinary group of people in a quest to collectively conquerer a unique challenge. My only regret after these 24 days with all of you is that I have not been able to think of, or find, another quest for all of us to participate in as a community. How can we continue this fun? Any thoughts?

Also, send me your websites / blogs so that we can share them. I have already highlighted Krupo's Blog (accounting / photos / funnies) and Brotherj's Blog ( Da Vinci Controversy). I will filter the links so you don't have to. Thanks again for everything!

I second the motion. We don't need the humongous prize from this quest, but I would certainly enjoy other 'quests' using the same structure as this one. Anybody at Google listening?

And GoogleFact - thanks for the great blog. I've never participated in a blog before - you did GREAT!

Oh man, now it is really over. I went back to play the Suduku like puzzle (my favorite) by going to http://www.google.com/ig/davinci/puzzle.html?puzzle=19 and instead I got forwarded to http://www.google.com/ig/davinci/final_puzzle_quest_over.html

My google quest text on my personalized page says this:

Thank you for participating in The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google. We hope you had fun.

If you enjoyed the Quest, then you won't want to miss The Da Vinci Code movie, in theaters on May 19.

Does everybody have this??

First of all, mcuh appreciation for setting up this blog and for all the work that obviously went into making this a great blog for DVCQ devotees. Kudos!
I do have a question. At first I had the page that said that the Quest contest had ended. It happened a few times and I figured that somehow 10,000 participants had managed to register within the first 10 minutes.
Two or three hours later I tried again to register and managed to get the page that said "You have successfully registered." No more after that. Does that mean that I did the 'puzzle completion form' and the 'contest entry form?' IOW, am I still in the running for the cryptex?
Again, thumbs up for this blog. Great job!

Does that mean I am not a finalist?

GoogleFact- you rule! Your blog has been so much help, especially in answering all the questions about the whole "am i a finalist" issue- i do have a ? though- and if anyone can answer this please do cuz im kinda worried here- i successfully registered- but when i clicked "back" to make sure all the information was rite i didnt realize the "No P.O. Box" and i put a P.O. Box as my mailing address...is that gonna be a problem? Thanks so much!

First, thanks so much to GoogleFact for a terrific blog. In fact, Googlefact, your blog is the first I've ever read or posted to!

For those who completed phase 1 but may not be finalists, I came across this press release. Fwiw...

Allen Oelschlaeger, one of the founders of Encrypta Gifts, successfully completed Phase 1 of the Quest and is, therefore, familiar with the difficulty of correctly answering all 24 puzzles. He said, "Completing the Quest was such a challenge we decided to do something special for all the participants. We wanted everyone to have the opportunity to own a cryptex, not just the first 10,000 who completed the contest."

I don't know guys (and gals)... Everybody is waiting to be notified that they are amongst the 10 thousand finalists, so they have a chance to win the grand prize. Even though I did not read the official rules, in my opinion 10 thousand people will get the cryptex with info in it how to proceed to the next phase. And then the countdown will start upto the day the movie opens. I don't believe that there is a random drawing here. The quickest finalist who deciphers the cryptex and follows the instructions contained inside will be the winner. Everybody had 48 hours to solve the puzzles. Many people have no access to a computer at 1 PM (or in my case at 10 AM). Am I stupid to think this?

I got the following message when I go to http://www.google.com/davincicode

Congratulations! It appears that you have received our message and have completed all 24 puzzles. In order to reach the end of the Quest and be rewarded with untold riches you must quickly and correctly complete the Final Challenge.

The one to complete the Final Challenge in the least amount of time will be our chosen one. Beginning at 1pm EDT on May 19th, the final challenge, which is a time trial, will be made available to you for 48 hours. You can begin whenever you like, but prepare well, for once you begin there is no turning back. The player who completes all five tasks in the shortest amount of time will be declared the winner.

I'm not sure that this means anything or not. I didn't receive an e-mail, I just went to that page.

legaleagll,

I see the same message when I go to that page. I think it's just a placeholder until the final challenge begins. I don't think it means much that we can see. But that doesn't mean we can't hope!

ya, i got the same message!

yeah it pretty much said it was a place holder in the html.....-to-early

At 5/11/2006 12:15 PM, Blogger -tg- said...

I dont know if its just a placeholder because on my other google account where i didnt complete all of the puzzles my page says

"The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google

Thank you for participating in The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google.

We’re sorry, but in order to compete in the Final Challenge you must have completed the previous 24 puzzles correctly and registered prior to 1pm (EST) on May 11th.

The Da Vinci Code is in theaters worldwide May 19th."

so i dont know

At 5/11/2006 12:19 PM, Blogger legaleagll said...

I didn't want to hear that -tg- cause now I am actually going to hope that it means something. I completed it at about 1:02 EST, so I already had some hope. Thankfully I didn't get any of the errors that others had. The real test is for someone who completed it well after it should have been closed out (say maybe the next day) and see if they get the good message or not.

hey just found another da vinci quest......http://quest.eurostar.com

At 5/11/2006 12:28 PM, Blogger -tg- said...

haha well the reason i dont really know if it means anything is becaue i completed it on my real account by what i thought would be much too long to qualify....3:45 EST (damn AP psychology test) and still got the same message you got...but i guess i can still hope for some outside chance

oh and at 1:02 i'm gonna say its a safe bet that you got it, especially if you made it without any errors

Greetings,
My first time on your blog today.
Up until may 9th, I thought that every one was given completely different questions to prevent sharing, and so I never attempted to look for help from incredible blogs like yours and Abracadabra's blogspot blog for the quest. But, While looking for clues in google for the quests, I stumbled on a wealth of information in blogs and realized that people do have some of the same quests, and answers, unfortunate that this was on the final 2 days of the phase 1 challenge, but honestly the ones I had the most difficulty with were anything related to math and chess.I continued to stumble and get frustrating headaches every time a chess or math challenge. Had I known of blogs like yours, I would have had some easier days early on.
I want to thank you for taking the time to help others..I do hope that the attention, networking and community feeling of team work does not dissolve after all of this is over. I will check back to see how things are going here and on the other blogs I have found as a result of the quest.
M Ronin.

AAAAAARGH!

I saw the last puzzle come up today, and saved it do at home tonight. However, it tells me that the contest is closed!

It says:

Thank you for participating in The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google.

We’re sorry, but in order to compete in the Final Challenge you must have completed the previous 24 puzzles correctly and registered prior to 1pm (EST) on May 11th.

HOWEVER... this is NOT in the rules. The Rules state that entries must be received before midnight on the 12th May - tomorrow!

Anyone else have this problem?

At 5/11/2006 1:25 PM, Blogger iamaducky said...

I finished past 8:00 pm est and still got to register and I got the register successfully screen. I wonder if I made it.

At 5/11/2006 1:29 PM, Blogger Poleydee said...

Sorry, should have read the other comments first!

... I read the rules of the contest pretty carefully, and it clearly says that anyone who completed all the puzzle answers will be entered into the draw. There's nothing about the first 10,000, or anything similar. I'm reading the UK rules, are you?

Hello, I just got into blogging and came across this one. (after the quest unfortunitly) And I wanted to see if everyone noticed some of the things that I did. 1) The four geography question answers were the places that were in the grand prize. I noticed that after about the second week. 2) This one is kinda weird. If you look at the order of the puzzles, they kinda make a chalice (well a half chalice)
The numbers on the left are the order of the puzzles, the numbers on the right are to show more of the chalice or an upside down (half) triangle.
1 7 13 19 | 1 1 1 1
2 8 14 20 | 2 2 2 2
4 9 15 21 | 4 3 3 3
5 11 16 22| 5 5 4 4
6 12 18 23| 6 6 6 5
3 10 17 24| 3 4 5 6
3) The Da Vinci code (the book) was filled with twists and stuff, why hasent there been any twists yet in this contest? Maybe like some people have posted the link to the quest (and how it says the message about the final chalenge) Maybe it will let us all in once the cryptexes are sent out. Who knows.

I just want to say thank you very much for all the info you have posted in the past 24 days. I doubt very seriously if I have a shot. I believe my end time was 1:20 est. In any case win, lose or draw this was fun. I think that sony or other studios would have similar contests that you could post or moderate. BTW this is the 1st and only blog I have ever posted to.

Caio till next time.

GoogleFact this website that you set up has been a godsend and thank you for setting it up. If you make any more blogs, hopefully they'll be as interesting and useful as this one, but even if it's really crappy I'll still read it. Just cuz you deserve it!

Re the email, I think everyone's getting it. Mine came in at 9:46pm on 5/11. I slept through the part of the quest when I could have actually won, so I'm hoping that the mysterious surprise message is something good. Like a wildcard spot showdown?

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's gonna be:

"Thank you for playing. Sorry you were a big loser. But, surprisingly, statistics show that you can FEEL like a winner when you see the Da Vinci Code in theatres May 19!!!!!
Love,
Google"

sarah e,

I might be able to help you out. The secret to it is you need to move the inner circle first until you have a word such as park, place, street, bridge, etc. Then once you have a word, click on the rose shaped thing in the middle and that will lock the inner ring. Then move the outer ring until you have another word. It will be a word like....Knights, Queen, Oxford, etc. Put the word from the outer ring first and the inner ring second and you have a two word set.

Once you have a word on the inner ring, and a word on the outer ring, write the word down and then start over again. Click on the rose shaped thing to unlock the inner ring and move the inner ring until you have another word. Then move the outer ring until you have a word. Put the two words toegther and you have another two word set.

I actually wrote all my two word sets down. The game knows when you have found them all and it will tell you.

I hope this helps.

~Missy

P.S. To move the rings, ie...make them turn.....put the mouse arrow somewhere on the ring where there isn't a letter and holding your left mouse button down, move your mouse arrow in either a clockwise direction or coun ter clockwise direction and then release. the ring should turn changing the letters.
